The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne is your ticket to seeing Amitabh Bachchan. The southern hemisphere’s greatest annual celebration of Indian cinema, happening from the 1 – 11 May 2014.

From thrillers to comedies, arthouse to musicals, we will be screening an incredible selection of classic and contemporary cinema that spans the full breadth of India’s varied and dizzying output, celebrating its history and glimpsing its future. The festival opens with a screening of the gun-tooting, retro classic Sholay 3D at Melbourne Central HOYTS, introduced by none other than Amitabh Bachchan – the godfather of Indian cinema. Aside from film screenings, there will be a Dance Competition held at Federation Square and Master Classes at Melbourne Central HOYTS for aspiring filmmakers. Other festival guests include: arthouse actress Konkona Sen Sharma, Bollywood siren Malaika Arora Khan and Dhoom 3 writer/director Vijay Krishna Acharya.

However, the most exciting event in the festival line-up is the inaugural Awards Night at Princess Theatre, 2 May 7pm, where we recognise the best of Indian cinema live on stage, with special guest Amitabh Bachchan.

Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director, Best Film and Best Indie Film awards are all up for grabs, while the one and only Amitabh Bachchan will receive the IFFM International Screen Icon Award for his magnificent contributions to world cinema.

Celebrate the richness of Indian cinema with the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne – what you find may surprise you.
