Grab your party hats, hone your best dance moves, and show off your grooviest garments for JamGrass, a “psychedelic string festival” that aims to demonstrate the link between traditional forms of music and more progressive genres. The two day festival features a menagerie of soul-shaking, feet tapping, bands and musicians and although the festival is sheltered under the umbrella-genre of ‘rock’, the lineup will sway between bluegrass, jazz, country, Americiana and folk.

The festival, which launched in 2010, will be celebrating its fifth year at the new outdoor space of Bundoora Park for the Saturday day party. Director Jason Taylor said ‘We always felt that the natural home for JamGrass was outdoors, and this year it will be’.

Expect art installations, sofas, food stalls and of course psychedelic sound waves. This sensory festivity, complete with huge sound systems, lighting and décor, invites crowds to digest the music in a variety of different ways, offering both a live gig and an unforgettable experience.

Headlining the festival on Saturday will be the one-man-band Derren Hart of “Harts,” who blends the falsetto of Prince with the raw-talent of Hendrix. His recent album ‘Daydreamer,’ released in 2014, saw Hart playing every single instrument and experiencing the entire creative process as composer, producer and singer. Watch out also for the charming sound of “Tinpan Orange’s” 60’s inspired folk, and sprightly authentic bluegrass from “Quarry Mountain Dead Rats.”

A limited amount of advance tickets will be on sale at the launch party, which takes place on Friday 6th November at the Spotted Mallard, Brunswick. Sydney band “The Morrisons,” who were recently crowned winners of the 2014 folk/acoustic song of the year at the Australian Song Writers Association Awards, will be headlining the launch so anticipate fierce finger-picking and stirring rhythms to get your knees rising.
