In October 2014, Preston resident Kitty Van Cuylenburg founded MummaSwag, a social enterprise that helps guide new mums through the process of breastfeeding by offering a health pack full of useful goodies. In addition, 25% of the proceeds go to beyondblue to support parents with postnatal depression.

Both Kitty and her co-creator Anne Marie Brownhill have babies of their own and during their transition to the ‘new parents’club, they quickly realised that there was not a support pack available for new mums who wished to breastfeed.

Many of the products come from local Australian suppliers and it is hoped that MummaSwag can promote an ongoing giving loop: supporting Australian business, which supports breastfeeding mums, which supports parents with postnatal depression.”

“Breastfeeding can be extremely rewarding for mum and baby, but unfortunately it can be difficult to master! Anne and I have encountered almost every breastfeeding issue and we wanted to help troubleshoot the process for new mums. There was so much we didn’t know when we started out, so we created MummaSwag – the gift every breastfeeding mum needs,” Kitty said.

Using tips and recommendations from other mums as well as their own ideas, Kitty and Anne Marie joined forces to devise an all in one swag bag for a new mum, containing a range of practical, fun gifts. Many of the products come from local Australian suppliers and it is hoped that MummaSwag can promote an ongoing giving loop: supporting Australian business, which supports breastfeeding mums, which supports parents with postnatal depression.

The National Perinatal Depression Initiative was founded in 2008 through beyondblue to improve the prevention and early detection of antenatal and postnatal depression and to provide better care, support and treatment for parents experiencing these illnesses.
