POKING IN THE NORTHSIDE
By Jo Rittey
Melbourne was well and truly wowed over summer by the Hawaiian/Japanese sushi bowls called poké and pronounced poh-kay. Fresh off the boat from California, ergo, super healthy and super cool, poké really just means cubed raw fish. When it’s served in a bowl with sushi rice, it’s called poké. Add in some veges and it’s a little like a hybrid salad, deconstructed sushi kinda deal. As with all traditional food that we take a liking to, the protein is no longer restricted to fish and can be anything yummy and nourishing and mostly healthy.
Where can you get your hands on some poké in the north? Well, here’s a little list I prepared earlier.
