Perth favourite, The Modern Eatery, flung open its doors in Richmond last week and is already welcoming in the hordes.

The Modern Eatery serves aburi style sushi, which means the fish is lightly seared so there is a slightly smoky chargrilled flavour to the fish without actually cooking it. If you’re not sure what I mean by that, I mean it’s delicious. Then there are the sauces, another standout at TME. Designed to perfectly match the fish and other fillings, the sauces may sound innocuous on the menu; onion sauce, avocado sauce, signature aburi sauce, but tasting them is next level. A little bit of mystery goes a long way after all.

Sharing is caring at The Modern Eatery and what They, aka The Team, want for you is to come on down with a posse of friends, or even just a group if you eschew cowboy-type references, and order a few plates, share, talk about how great the flavours are and get out the Icals to plan the next rendez-vous.

So, apart from the aburi sushi, you and the cowboys will LOVE the salmon oshi, or compressed sushi. Incredible textures and flavours all on one plate. Definitely order the Miyazaki chicken from the head chef’s hometown in Miyazaki, Japan.

While the Perth restaurants are all Western Australia colour explosions, the Swan Street Décor is suitably Melbourne. This is a good thing. We don’t really do outwardly effusive here. Studio Equator’s sleek design allows for our personalities and that of the food to shine.

Get amongst the sushi, whisky and craft beer and allow The Modern Eatery to work its magic. This is a place that will become your regular.
