Where is Victoria on the table?

Nothing brings people together like a roast. And one trendy eatery on Smith Street is using Victorian ingredients to do just that.

Agent 284 restaurant and cocktail bar has joined the Melbourne Food & Wine Festival’s winter “Put Victoria On Your Table” campaign with a “Winter Taste of Victoria” Roast Collection available from 1-30 June.

Occupying the heritage-listed Old Comarty’s building on the corner of Smith and Otter Street, Agent 284 is Collingwood’s smart cool kid on the block, offering up winter warmer homestyle cuisine, snappy cocktails and a fine selection of Victorian wines, lagers and ales within a charming old world environment.

Agent 284 prides itself on a ”keep it simple, keep it satisfying and keep it affordable” menu created by Owner Daniel Lemura and Chef Beu, with all items made on premise from scratch using only the finest Victorian meat, produce and fresh ingredients.”

The “Put Victoria On Your Table” campaign highlights Agent 284’s multicultural menu offering with a special Roast Collection created by new Head Chef Roger Andre Beu. Hailing from Wellington, NZ, Chef Beu brings over 30 years of global culinary experience in diverse cuisines from Spanish and Italian, to Greek, French, German and Irish.

Alongside a hearty winter roasted lamb, duck and pork belly main collection plus a seasonal Victorian winter cheese and fruit entrée, Agent 284 will be selectively pairing Victorian wines and beers to round out this winter gastronomic experience.  Brewing and vintner experts from Grand Ridge and Winestock Victoria will be on hand to speak on the finer points of wine and beer selection, unique tasting notes, and varietal facts to further engage guests with their overall special dining event.

Not sure on which wine or beer to try? “Take off” with a “Taste of Victoria” wine or beer “flight” – sampling serves of each wine/beer/ale/stout suggested to compliment your meal.  A great way to discover a new hops or grape libation!

Celebrating a one year anniversary since the restaurant/cocktail bar opened in May 2012, the rustic décor features exposed brick, leather and wood furnishings and metal birdcage light fixtures with stately library wallpaper covering the walls and doors.

The restaurant on the ground floor offers seating for 56 including street dining, with a New York Style “Cocktail Gallery” bar up the stairs (complete with brass tacked club chairs and chrome lighting) and private “Birdcage” room for intimate get-togethers (up to 15 pax).  The basement function or “Gallery Room” space cum Speakeasy, features rounded leather banquettes, wood block bar, gilded frames for screen projections and a performance stage.  A hidden gem for any special event (up to 120 pax).
